Combustion Associates Inc. (CAI) has been chosen to present its white paper titled “Lighting Up Economic Opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa through the E3 Factor” at the prestigious 2017 Power Gen International to be held December 5 – 7, 2017 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Power Gen International is the largest power generation event in the industry providing comprehensive coverage of the trends, technologies and issues facing the generation sector. It draws more than 1,400 companies from all sectors of the industry and more than 20,000 attendees.
CAI has extensive experience in designing, manufacturing, EPC and “turn-key” services related to natural gas powered generators for its clients in Africa. Majority of these projects utilize low BTU quality fuel and flare gas fuel to generate electricity. They requires fuel clean-up systems which CAI custom-designs to meet client needs.
The paper will share insights that CAI developed as the EPC contractor on an 80 MW power plant for the government of Benin in the town of Maria Gleta. In the Sub-Sharan Africa region that suffers from acute power shortage, this was the first power plant of its kind in Benin.
CAI provided eight units of its 10MW power generation system, along with balance-of-plant equipment including high voltage switchyard, water treatment system, skid-mounted fire suppression system, two 500,000 gallon fuel tanks and a control room.
CAI hired local contractors and workers to build this plant. When CAI first arrived on the site in Benin, it was a greenfield. When transformed into a power plant, the President of Benin came out to tour it.
Running a coordinated operation between its engineering and production staff in California and its construction team on site in Benin, CAI handled engineering and design, procurement, manufacturing and testing, construction and installation and commissioning and training.
