CAI’s Systems Power Off-Shore Platforms

Two units of Spirit 1 MW on an offshore oil platform in Cameroon

CAI designed and manufactured six units of its Spirit ™ 1 MW power generation package per the specifications of its client, a Fortune 100 company that is at the forefront of international oil and gas exploration and production.

These units now power three oil platforms off the coast of Cameroon in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Spirits are CAI’s in-house developed signature line of power generation products that are well suited for anyone requiring 24/7 reliable power and ideal for quick deployment and operation.  These units are ideal for emerging economies around the world.

CAI technical staff provide training to operators in Cameroon.

In addition to design, fabrication and testing, CAI sent its technical team to the site to install, commission and provide hands-on as well as classroom training to local operators on how to operate, maintain and troubleshoot the power generation units.

The Spirits, which come in 1MW – 10 MW packages, are highly customizable and fuel flexible. The Cameroon units are using flare gas to generate electricity. However, they can also generate power with diesel, LNG, LPG, associated petroleum gas, sour gas, flare gas, and through waste-to-energy process.

Spirit 1 MW is offered in both on-shore and off-shore packages. For this client, CAI customized the units with the following alterations for their offshore operation:

  • Stainless steel acoustic enclosure
  • Corrosion proof and marine environment engineered
  • Hazardous area classified
  • Fire protection/suppression systems
  •  Small footprint perfect for limited space
  • Hazard Area Class 1 Div II design

Engineering, manufacturing and testing of the units was all completed at CAI’s Corona, California facility. The “Made in California, USA” label for Spirit line of power generation systems carry a stamp of high-quality assurance that is much valued around the world.

CAI will share the insights that it has developed in exporting to Africa through a white paper presentation at Power Gen International Conference, Dec. 3-5, 2017 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The company’s export efforts have brought in several awards and a special commendation from President Obama. See video on Home Page.
