Combustion Associates, Inc. Supports Heliogen in Acceleration of Engineering and Manufacturing of Renewable Energy Technologies

Corona, California, May 19, 2022 --  Combustion Associates, Inc. (CAI), today announced that Heliogen, Inc. (Heliogen), a leading provider of AI-enabled concentrated solar energy, has selected CAI to support Heliogen in its mission to decarbonize major industrial operations with concentrated sunlight. The collaboration focuses on the design and build of the sCO2 test facility that can be used to power industrial facilities, data centers, and mining operations. It will be built and tested at CAI’s manufacturing facility in Corona, California.

Heliogen is developing breakthrough solar technology to build power generation solutions that deliver high-temperature, carbon-free thermal energy. The company’s standard system will provide industrial-grade heat capable of replacing fossil fuels in industrial processes for companies in the the cement, mining, steelmaking, and oil & gas industries.

CAI has extensive experience in engineering, fabricating, and integrating renewable energy systems and balance of plant equipment for diverse industrial purposes. The company’s specific expertise is in the packaging of 1 MW - 16 MW power generation systems to support a wide range of markets and industries. CAI is a preferred packager for top turbine manufacturers in North America including Siemens, MAN Energy Systems, and Baker Hughes. The Heliogen design-build project adds to CAI’s growing portfolio of renewable energy projects.

“CAI is honored to be working on this exciting project to support Heliogen’s advanced technology that will significantly reduce the world’s fossil fuel emissions and offer a clean alternative to generate electricity,” said CAI CEO, Ms. Kusum Kavia. “We’re looking forward to what we hope will be a long-term collaboration between CAI and Heliogen, and to kick-starting this green-energy innovation in California.”

“Testing and validation of our sCO2 power cycle represents a key milestone in our plans to commercialize solutions to decarbonize heavy industry,” said Steve Schell, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Engineer, Heliogen. “Working with best-in-class partners like CAI accelerates the pace at which Heliogen can bring our innovative technologies to market.”
